Review: Hotel Lumen, Madrid

HOTELS + STAYS · MADRID

MICHELLE'S SCORE:

90 / 100

Tucked behind a quiet square in the Salamanca district, Hotel Lumen has just twenty-two rooms and no sign on the door. I found it the way the best places are usually found: a friend's recommendation, whispered over dinner. I stayed three nights.

THE HIGH

The service. By the second morning, the team knew how I take my coffee, which table I preferred, and that I'd want a car at nine. Nothing was ever asked twice.

THE MISS

The rooftop closes at eleven. On a warm Madrid night, with the city just waking up, that felt far too early.

THE MOMENT

Returning late after dinner to find a handwritten note on my pillow, with a recommendation for a tiny bakery around the corner that opens at seven. It was the best croissant I had all year.

WOULD I RETURN?

Without hesitation. It's already where I'd send anyone I care about.

THE RETELL

It's the kind of hotel that makes Madrid feel like a secret only you were let in on.
